Digitally speaking, your cloud is your office.

Companies migrate their internet resources, employee files, and shared resources to a single platform where it’s all hosted.

If you want to move from one physical location to another, you need to hire movers.

Tzunami is the digital equivalent. They move files – lots of them.

When companies move from one cloud platform to another, the digital haul is as work-intensive as a bunch of behemoths lifting a three-seat comforter.

Tzunami has two products: an on-prem solution called Tzunami Deployer, and their cloud data-migration tool called Cloudsfer.

They migrate every type of file from every source that you can think of: Dropbox, AWS, Microsoft SharePoint, everything.

In a moment, a company can decide that Dropbox is cheaper than Google Drive and Tzunami will move their files to help them reap the benefits. If a local region for AWS suddenly produces better performance than Azure, a business can migrate everything there rapidly.

Migrations can be one-time, backups, or continuous.

RavenDB Makes it Happen

RavenDB is the heart of the system. Everything goes through RavenDB. Without RavenDB, we are not working.

Tzunami does not hold the files they transfer, but it tracks the number of files moved, the time it takes, and pricing data for the client to reference.

They track transaction information, how much data was moved, and how much it cost. Usually, plans provide a fixed number of terabytes of movement. However, Tzunami is also implementing pay-as-you-go, where you can pay only for the data moved.

RavenDB is at the heart of it all.

Tzunami has been using RavenDB since 2015. It monitors users, tokens, migration plans, execution plans, just about everything that goes on behind the scenes when moving files from one place to another.

Migration plans are essential because backups must be precise to each specific document. For example, one of Tzunami’s clients always has to track over 140 million records. If they move, they have to account for all of them.

RavenDB writes every action done on Tzunami. Reports produce running aggregates on what’s moved, how long it’s taken, how much has been moved, and the total price for executing set migration plans.

The Future of Tzunami and RavenDB

All the operations are managed by RavenDB. Migration plans, execution plans, everything.

Tzunami chose RavenDB over SQL for performance. Unlike SQL, RavenDB does not use locking techniques to enforce data consistency. Instead, RavenDB uses asynchronous non-blocking index updates that allow clients to continue to perform queries during writes.

Document Databases, especially RavenDB are blazing fast. You don’t need to grab information from different places and put together a table for each query. Not only can you capture all the information you need in one place, but RavenDB also employs automatic indexes, so you will always have an index in front of every query – doubling the performance boost over SQL options again.
