Introduction

RavenDB Cloud is rolling out upgrades on clusters to RavenDB version 6.2, bringing exciting new features and improvements to enhance your database experience. With the upgrade process beginning in February 2025 for Free and Development Tiers and continuing through September 2025 for Production Tier clusters, this is the perfect opportunity to explore what’s new in RavenDB 6.2 and prepare your applications for a smooth transition.

For Production tier clusters, there should be no impact on normal services.

Key Dates for the Upgrade

Here’s a breakdown of the scheduled upgrades for each cluster type:

Free Tier

• Upgrade Date: February 2025

Development Tier

• 6.0 Clusters: February 2025
• 5.4 Clusters: July 2025

Production Tier

• 6.0 Clusters: March 2025
• 5.4 Clusters: September 2025

What’s New in RavenDB 6.2?

RavenDB 6.2 introduces significant enhancements designed to boost performance, scalability, and developer productivity. Highlights include:

• Prefixed Sharding for Data Sovereignty and Geo-Distribution: This feature allows you to define which shards a particular set of documents will go to, enabling data localization and compliance with data sovereignty requirements.

• Azure Functions Integration with ETL to Azure Queues: RavenDB 6.2 adds ETL to Azure Queue Storage, a cloud messaging service for communicating between application components, facilitating seamless integration with Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.

• OpenTelemetry Integration: This enhancement provides improved observability by integrating with OpenTelemetry, allowing for better monitoring and tracing of your database operations.

• Studio Omni-Search: Introduced in the RavenDB Studio, Omni-Search offers easier navigation and a more streamlined user experience.
